Book Nook: My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones

Vick Mickunas' 2021 interview with Stephen Graham Jones

Stephen Graham Jones had been on my wish list. Last year when I interviewed Paul Tremblay I asked him for tips on books I might want to read. The first name he mentioned was Stephen Graham Jones. I immediately began trying to track down the latest book. These things can take a while. Over a year. But it was well with it. I loved Stephen's new novel "My Heart is a Chainsaw."

The author is a devotee of slasher films and this book is an outrageous homage to that film genre. There are gory moments in this story and some hilarious ones. I quickly lost track of all of the movie references, there were simply so many of them. During our conversation I asked the author if he ever tabulated the number of films he had cited and he admitted that he had not but he was hoping that someone would eventually do so. Recently I noticed a post on Twitter that mentioned someone had completed that count.

If you love a good horror novel or are a fan of slasher films you won't want to miss this book.
