Storms bring heavy rain, damaging winds Tuesday afternoon

A power pole leans over Woodman Drive in Kettering across from Kroger after a thunderstorm with strong winds blew through the area. An AES crew on the scene says the pole will need to be replaced.

Strong thunderstorms blew through Southwestern Ohio on Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy rains and strong winds.

The National Weather Service says multiple reports of downed trees and power lines were reported across Southwestern Ohio as winds gusted over 60 mph.

The Dayton International Airport reported a gust of 68 mph at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Large trees and limbs were blown down near West Carrollton, Brookville, Springboro, West Alexandria, South Vienna, Carlisle and Germantown.

At one point, several thousand AES customers were without power Tuesday afternoon. Nearly 4,500 were without power as of 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Tuesday night, mainly before 11pm. Lows will be about 50 degrees.

On Wednesday, NWS predicts a slight chance of showers after 3 p.m. It's forecasted to be mostly sunny, with a high near 73.
