Wright State University held its first ever virtual commencement ceremony Saturday morning for students who earned their degrees in the spring semester. University officials decided against an in-person ceremony due to COVID safety concerns and restrictions on large gatherings.

Political Science Professor Laura Lehrman told the graduates that, although the faculty had hoped for graduation to look different, the spirit of achievement is alive in all of them.

“Even though this morning we are not packed into the Nutter Center our celebration is genuine and our respect for you as graduates during the challenges of the COVID era is sincere and heartfelt,” Lehrman said.

Over two thousand students that earned degrees last spring were recognized at the virtual ceremony.
