Dayton Power & Light, which serves over 500,000 electricity customers in the Miami Valley, has resumed disconnections for non-payment.
DP&L halted their electricity disconnections for nearly six months, but the investor-owned utility resumed shutoffs on September 1st. The company says there are opportunities for customers who have fallen behind on their electricity bills to keep their lights on.
Mary Ann Kabel, Director of Corporate Communications for DP&L, says the company offers extended payment plans, and will even send someone in person to try to make contact and get an in-person payment on the day of disconnection.
“We hope that our customers are not at that point," Kable says. "Since we have given such advanced notice for them to take these opportunities and enroll in a plan.”
Kabel said payment on the day of disconnection must be contactless. People who need help with their utility payments have some options here in the Miami Valley: the Miami Valley Community Action Partnership and DP&L’s Gift of Power program both have funds available for utility customers in need.
