On Tuesday, a group of University of Dayton employees held two events—one on campus and one online—to share their concerns about the university’s reopening plans.
The group calls themselves UD Solidarity. Since the pandemic started, they’ve held employee listening sessions, written to the administration, and surveyed faculty and staff about their concerns.
Now, they’ve started a petition outlining how they’d like to see the campus reopening handled this fall.
“At the end of the day, it should be the right of every staff and faculty member to decide for themselves whether or not they want to expose themselves and their families to the COVID-19 virus,” says professor Joel Pruce.
The petition also calls for free protective equipment, sanitizing supplies, and rapid COVID testing on campus.
Organizers want increased paid leave for employees who are exposed to the coronavirus, too.

UD Solidarity says they want employees to have more input, because their health depends on it.
