Springfield Hosts Presidential Advisors Debate

Daniel Gummel

This past weekend Springfield played host to a debate between economic advisors for both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

The debate featured Peter Navarro, a Trump campaign economic advisor and Austan Goolsbee, former senior economic policy advisor for Barack Obama and current Clinton campaign consultant.   Both men presented their candidate’s economic platforms including plans to bring jobs and prosperity back to the region.

Debate moderator, Scott Wunn is the executive director of the national speech and debate association.  He says Springfield was an ideal location for event, “This city has a storied history of being a big industrial powerhouse, and there’s probably a lot of Ohio citizens that would like to see what their economic policies would do for the state of Ohio moving forward.”

Two protesters briefly interrupted the event shouting support for the Green Party and were escorted away by police.

The debate was sponsored by financial firm EF Hutton, who recently moved its global headquarters to Springfield.

Organizers say they are working on hosting similar future debates  but no word yet on when or where those will be held.
