Ohio Department of Education Releases School Report Card Data

The Ohio Departmente. of Education is pushing for updated safety plans for schools around the state
Ohio Department of Education

The Ohio Department of Education has released its annual school report card data. The report measures school district performance based on test scores from the 2014-2015 school year.

Oakwood City Schools was one of only six districts in the state to receive an “A” rating for its overall test scores. Beavercreek, Yellow Springs, and Centerville City Schools all earned "B" ratings in that category.

Centerville Superintendent Dr. Tom Henderson says changes in state testing practices last year make it hard to say whether this year’s results are good indicators.

"There were a lot of challenges with the just the number of assessments that came into place last spring, the logistical challenges, tests were given online, and there were glitches in the technology," said Henderson. "These are all things that can cause stress and anxiety and impact how students perform.”

Last year’s tests incorporated Common Core standards The state has since decided to drop those assessments in favor of a different Common Core test.

Dayton, Huber Heights, and Trotwood all received “D” ratings.

Some say this year’s state report cards shouldn’t have even been released—speaking to press in Columbus Thursday, state school board member AJ Wagner said the scores are faulty and unfair.
