Kasich Names New Veterans Services Director

Retired U.S. Army Col. Chip Tansill will take over as director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Gov. John Kasich has named a new director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services after the agency's previous head resigned last week.

Kasich's office announced on Monday that retired U.S. Army Col. Chip Tansill was taking over as the department's leader. He replaces retired U.S. Army Col. Tim Gorrell, who left on Friday.

The 56-year-old Gorrell held the role for about two years. He told Kasich in a Sept. 14 resignation letter that he believed it was time to step down, though he did not cite a reason.

Tansill's previous jobs include executive director of the Franklin County Veterans Services Commission and chief of staff for the Ohio National Guard. The 50-year-old started his military career in 1982 and was deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1990.
