Career ConnectED Center Holds Symposium In Springfield

Greater Springfield Career ConnectED

The newly-formed Greater Springfield Career ConnectED Consortium held its first symposium in Springfield this week.

The event attracted more than 200 people, including educators and business leaders from across the country.

Kim Fish with Springfield City Schools, one of the ConnectED partners, explained the event helped show how the consortium will help students better prepare for college and careers after high school.

"One of the most important things that we're doing is taking a very deliberate approach to the skills that students need to be really 21st century learners," Fish said. "The critical thinking, the collaboration, those type of skills that aren't measured on state tests are what we're really trying to tackle with our work."

The Global Impact Stem Academy, Clark-Shawnee Local and the Career Tech Center are also partners in Connect Ed - offering education for in-demand careers.

Thanks to an $11.3 million Straight A grant from the Ohio Department of Education, the old South High School building will house the Career ConnectED Center. A ribbon cutting is scheduled for the center in August and students are expected to attend beginning this fall.
