Ohio Agency Reports More Than 21,000 Jobs Created In 2014

Ohio's privatized economic development office reports that it created more than 21,000 jobs last year.

JobsOhio said in a report Monday that there was "great growth" in job creation in 2014. The nonprofit reported landing 286 projects, and $6.1 billion in capital investment by companies locating and expanding in the state.

But The Columbus Dispatch says JobsOhio reported a downturn in the number of jobs retained by working with existing companies to upgrade or expand their operations.

The number of jobs retained fell by more than 18,000, or 26 percent, to 52,140. That leaves the combined jobs created and retained at 73,517 - a 17-percent decline from 2013.

The $6.1 billion in corporate investments secured by the agency was a 72-percent increase from 2013.
