Wittenberg Hosting Peace, World History Conference

This weekend, Springfield's Wittenberg University will be the site for the fourth annual Conflict and Peace in World History Conference. This is the first time the event has been hosted in Ohio.

The conference is part of the Midwest World History Association's attempt to present lectures and exhibits that shine a light on historic events ranging from the American Revolution to recent conflicts in the Middle East.

Molly Wood of Wittenberg, is the chairwoman of the event. She says that the historical perspective presented by guest speakers and the exhibits can shed light on why certain areas in the world are currently at war.

"By looking at conflict in a historical context and how it's been resolved. Whether conflict has ended up in war as it often as, or whether it's ended in a peaceful resolution, looking at how that has play out at different times and different places around the world, I think it's gotta have relevance for today," Wood says.

Friday afternoon, six local colleges and museums displayed posters from their archives that show the history of war, peace, and peacemaking in southern Ohio.

Several venues around the Wittenberg campus and the Bayley Auditorium will be used for conference events that continue on Saturday.
