EPA Clears Way For Sale Of Calamityville

A letter from the state Environmental Protection Agency clears the way for a southwest Ohio university to take over a cleaned-up brownfield site now used for emergency response training.

The Dayton Daily News reports the letter to the city of Fairborn indicates no more cleanup is needed at the site housing the National Center for Medical Readiness, known as "Calamityville."

That paves the way for Fairborn to sell the property to Wright State University. The school has been leasing it for the collaborative training and research facility that opened in 2011 to help prepare first responders and civilian and military medical staff for disasters.

The EPA letter releases the parties from legal responsibility for past contamination at the site, which previously had a cement plant.
