Miami Valley StoryCorps interviews are the result of WYSO’s collaboration with StoryCorps, the national oral history collection project that visited Dayton in the spring of 2010 and 2014. All the Miami Valley StoryCorps segments consist of interviews between two local residents.

The founder of StoryCorps, Dave Isay, is coming to Dayton for a WYSO fundraiser at the Schuster Center on Friday, June 21st.  StoryCorps is a national oral history project.  In honor of Dave Isay’s visit, we’re re-broadcasting some of our favorite Miami Valley StoryCorps interviews, recorded in 2010.

Today we hear Ruby Wells Nicholson and her daughter, Jane Scott from Yellow Springs.  Ruby was born in Kentucky in 1910.  She survived the Great Flu Epidemic and saw the birth of the automobile. In the StoryCorps booth, mother and daughter discussed Ruby’s memories of rural life: the changing of the seasons, and preparations for spring.
