Montgomery County has recommended funding for seven projects totaling nearly 7 million dollars. The grants are expected to bring in over 400 jobs to the area.
The Economic Development Government Equity program or EDGE was created by Montgomery County in the early 90s to bring news jobs and promote other economic efforts in the region. It identified two projects in the city of Dayton, each would receive half a million dollars in funding. One is ESP 2.0-a program that promotes entrepreneurs in technology in the region. The other is the Project Peco site on McCall Street. The funding will transform a 425 thousand square foot building into manufacturing space.
Among the other projects, The City of Union will see 500 thousand dollars to improve transportation access and utilities to make the city ready to compete for new business. The area there is considered competitive to bring in new jobs due to it’s location in the 170/75 corridor.
EDGE is Montgomery County’s main economic development fund. The recommendations will be considered by the Board of County commissioners at their meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday.
