Canal Street Tavern in Dayton has been sold. The music venue’s new owner is Bill Daniels, owner of Pizza Factory and South Park Tavern.
Canal Street has been around since 1981, and long-time owner Mick Montgomery says the club has been his life, adding, "the truth is I’ve had some incredible staff to who helped me get started, and whose worked with me over the years, and I can’t describe it in any other way than it’s just been a gratifying, good experience."
News of the sale spread over the weekend on social media, upsetting many, but Montgomery says he’ll still be involved with the club, and for now not much will change.
Montgomery says he and Daniels have, "been talking about getting together on this deal for quite some time, and when we came to the conclusion that it would be a win-win for my involvement to remain as the booking person there, I think that was when we really started settling the deal."
Montgomery is now on a 5-year contract to stay on as the booking agent for club, which will retain the Canal Street branding during that time.
Tune into WYSO Weekend on Sunday, April 14th at 10:30am for an extended interview with Mick Montgomery.
