Wilmington Group Looks to Federal Stimulus Package for Help

Wilmington, Ohio is still suffering from the economic effects of DHL's decision to stop domestic operations at the airpark there. That's why a community organization is lobbying hard to get help from the federal stimulus package.

The group, called Energize Clinton County, is now lobbying for 30 million dollars from the federal stimulus package. They plan is to weatherize 10,000 homes and create over 1,000 jobs in southwest Ohio. Co-Founder Mark Rembert says this project could create immediate jobs.

"Not only is it creating jobs, but we're providing direct savings to people who really having a difficult economic time right now, who are strapped for cash, who can use every cent you can get," says Rembert.

Energize Clinton County says if they're successful in their request, they want the money go initially to the regional planning commission so that it will benefit the entire county.

"Our hope is that regionally it is understood, statewide it's understood and especially locally it's understood that we have the capacity to do this, we have the need for this, and that we will see the benefits to this, not only in Clinton County, but regionally as well," says Co-Founder Taylor Stuckert.

Energize Clinton County is holding a meeting tonight to discuss the economic and environmental benefits of weatherization. Stuckert says they need a high level of commitment from the community to compete with more proposals from urban areas in the state
