Dayton Porchfest Returns To St. Anne's Hill Neighborhood This Saturday

DaytonPorchfest.org

The outdoor community concert event Dayton Porchfest is making its return to the St. Anne's Hill Neighborhood after taking a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 40 bands and solo artists will perform from porches across the historic district in Dayton this Saturday afternoon. Peter Benkendorf of The Collaboratory, Porchfest's presenting organization, alongside two of the event's performers, Alec Snead and Kyleen Downes, stopped by WYSO's studio to speak with Excursions host Evan Miller (and guest co-host Andy Valeri) about this weekend's festivities.

The 2021 Dayton Porchfest will take place this Saturday August 21st from 1:30-6:45 PM, featuring a wide variety of local music, plus local food trucks. More details, including set times and a map of the event, can be found at DaytonPorchfest.org.

Evan Miller is a musician, curator, and radio person based in Yellow Springs. With roots studying percussion at Wright State University and cutting his radio teeth at WWSU, he is currently Assistant Music Director and host of Midday Music and The Outside at 91.3 WYSO and Novaphonic.FM. Outside of radio, you can find Evan regularly playing in several bands in the area, booking/curating shows including The Outside Presents experimental series in Yellow Springs, snooping around area record stores, and spoiling his cat Nova (Novaphonic's animal mascot!).
Andy Valeri is a lifelong lover of music since first digging into his parent’s record collection at the age of three. He is deeply involved in both the listening and collecting of it as well as its production and promotion, having owned and operated his own record and publishing company, and doing hundreds of hours of on air DJ’ing at WYSO. He has long served as the Rev. Cool’s right hand man back up on ‘Around The Fringe,’ and has occasionally filled in as host of ’The Jewel Case’ and ‘Midday Music’ as well. Community media is Andy’s vocation, with well over three decades of professional experience in it, including through academic and civic engagement in local and national media policy.
