After touring the world with other Irish and Scottish musicians like Ronnie Drew and Sinead O'Connor, Robin James Hurt decided to focus on his own work. He's created a style that uses quick guitar picking, mandolin, and dynamic vocals.
The Dublin musician's EP, The Spider's Legs, opens with a couple of traditional Irish folk songs arranged by Hurt. The songs are lively with evocative lyrics and storytelling. The last track "The Spider's Leg's" is an instrumental composition that features impressively intricate guitar and fiddle work.
In addition to engineering and composing, Robin James Hurt is also a talented guitarist who plays like a "demon gadgie" (Edinburgh Vernacular). On his website, he advertises, "If you find yourself in need of some damned fine guitar- or mandolin-shaped noise, be it of the acoustic or electric variety, just get in touch."
Robin James Hurt's EP was released in March 2007, and he's performed sets in Ireland and Britain. New dates in the U.S. are being planned.
