PoliticsOhio: Ohio Schools Brace for Lower Grades

Ellen Belcher, who's filling in for Emily McCord, interviews state Sen. Peggy Lehner, a Republican from Kettering, about Ohio's decision to adopt a new grading system that many schools say will result in their getting poor report cards.
School districts that used to be rated an A likely will be rated a C in two years. B districts could get Ds.
Ohio is one of 45 states that has adopted the new "Common Core" standards, which are decidedly more difficult than Ohio's existing academic requirements. Sen. Lehner, who chairs the Senate Education Committee, says Ohio is too generous in in how it grades both schools and students.
