Best of the Book Nook: Horseshoes, Cowsocks & Duckfeet: More Commentary by NPR's Cowboy Poet & Former Large Animal Veterinarian by Baxter Black

Vick Mickunas' 2002 interview with Baxter Black

19 years ago a tall drink of water sporting a 10 gallon chapeau came striding into our studios in Yellow Springs. It was the cowboy poet Baxter Black and he was on a book tour for his essay collection "Horseshoes, Cowsocks & Duckfeet: More Commentary by NPR's Cowboy Poet & Former Large Animal Veterinarian." At the time Baxter was well known to NPR listeners, his commentaries were aired regularly on the network.

He's a funny fellow. We had a good time together. That was his only appearance on the program. I hear he's still active. Although I also understand that he eschews most technology. Bless his heart.

The Book Nook on WYSO is presented by the Greene County Public Library with additional support from Washington-Centerville Public Library, Clark County Public Library, Dayton Metro Library, and Wright Memorial Public Library.
