Book Nook: America - the Farewell Tour, by Chris Hedges

71zthPobAAL.jpg

Chris Hedges returned to the program to discuss his latest book. Over the years that I have been interviewing him I have discovered that his books are serious critiques of our society. He is thoughtful, articulate, and determined. This latest book is one of the most essential books that I have read in many years. Hedges speaks his truth and that can be profoundly depressing.

Don't expect any laughter or mirth in this conversation. Hedges calls it the way he sees it and reality can be an ugly prospect to consider. Near the end of the interview I did get a slight chuckle out of him when I asked if he was working on his next book yet. This is a difficult book to read. Brace yourself. Then read it. The things of which he speaks are things that we should know and understand.

A Book Nook Bonus

I had some extra time in this segment so I went back to my archive of interviews and selected an excerpt from one I conducted 17 years ago with that most literary of folk singers, the late Jack Hardy. He performed some of his compositions that day. His lyricism and exquisite guitar work provide a magical experience.  Enjoy!
