WYSO Weekend: October 13, 2013

Antioch Writers' Workshop

On this edition of WYSO Weekend:

  • The News Wrap: Hear about the Xerox system outage that took down much of the EBT card system on Saturday, a crackdown on fraud by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, and the latest on Ohio's student loan default rate.
  • The Techumseh Land Trust and Little Miami Incorporated are two organizations working to preserve agricultural land, natural areas, water resources, and historic sites in Greene and Clark Counties, and along the Little Miami River. They recently dedicated a new nature preserve at the site where Tecumseh organized tribes in the late 1700’s. To find out more about the nature preserve we spoke with Krista Magaw of Tecumseh Land Trust, and Eric Partee with Little Miami Inc.
  • Recently, FilmDayton launched its first web-series.  FREAK CLUB was filmed in the Miami Valley and put together by local cast and crew.  FilmDayton says Freak Club offers intrigue, witty dialogue, ghost stories, and lots of fun. The series was an extension of FilmDayton's educational programming and matched professional and aspiring filmmakers together. Co-creator and Co-writer of the series, Alexandra Grizinski is a Springboro native and University of Dayton engineering grad.  Alexandra Grizinski is now a writer living and working in L.A. You can watch episodes of Freak Club on the FilmDayton web-site - FilmDayton.com
  • On this Sunday morning, we continue our series of faculty readings from this summer's Antioch Writers' Workshop with Matthew Goodman from his latest book 80 Days.  He begins by giving some background on this book's subject, Nellie Bly.
