Crowds are likely at the upcoming memorial service for slain Dayton Police Detective Jorge Del Rio Tuesday. The 55-year-old law enforcement veteran died in the line of duty last week from shooting-related injuries he sustained during a DEA Task Force operation.
The service is set for Tuesday, November 12, 2019, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the University of Dayton Arena. Parking will be available beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Gate D parking lot. Doors open at 10 a.m. for the service.
Dayton Police Department officials urge anyone planning to attend to allow for extra travel time both into and out of the venue. Attendees will be required to pass through security checkpoints at the arena.
After the service, a procession of law enforcement vehicles will escort Del Rio’s body to the funeral home off of Far Hills Ave.
Law enforcement vehicles only will be permitted to participate in the procession.
Motorists are cautioned to watch for street closures and prepare for delays as the procession travels across the city after the conclusion of the memorial service.
