Marty Wingate made her first appearance on the program to discuss her latest mystery novel, "The Bodies in the Library." This is the initial installment in her First Edition Library series and fans of mysteries might recognize the title is an homage to that Queen of Mystery; Agatha Christie.
Her protagonist in this story is Hayley Burke, the recently installed curator of Lady Georgianna Fowling's First Edition Library in Bath, England. Hayley is no sleuth, in fact she's barely a curator. She reveals as the novel opens that her knowledge about legendary mystery writers who have their first editions preserved under her care, novelists like the aforementioned Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers, is virtually nil. She needed this job.
The suspenseful plot revolves around a quirky writers' group which has been having their meetings in the library. As this one moves along we find Hayley beginning to discover some of the great mysteries under her care and an even greater mystery that surrounds a body that has been found in the library. It doesn't take long for her to begin her own investigation of the crime.
The author got my attention right away when she introduced a wonderful character who lives in the library, a cat named Bunter. His name is yet another literary reference for you mystery fans.
