Republican State Rep. Niraj Antani has announced he’s running for state Senate in 2020.
Antani is currently serving a third term in the House of Representatives in Ohio’s 42nd district. His bid for state senator will be in Ohio’s 6th Senate District - which is currently held by Republican Senator Peggy Lehner, who is term-limited.
“I very much appreciate her service," Antani says, "and plan on working hard over the next year to earn the support of those for the Republican primary. I'd like to argue that I've done a lot of hard work and a lot in the last four years as a state representative. My focus has been and will continue to be ensuring that the American dream is achievable for all Ohioans who work for it.”
Antani says if elected to the Senate, he would continue to fight several challenges facing many Ohioans, including opioid addiction and overdose deaths, and the state’s high rate of infant mortality.
The 27-year-old Antani is now the third youngest member of the state House of Representatives and the first Indian American Republican elected to the Ohio House.
Ohio Senate District 6, now represented by Lehner, encompasses Vandalia, Huber Heights, Englewood, Union, Phillipsburg, parts of Clayton, Clay Township, Butler Township, parts of east Dayton, and Riverside.
The district also includes Antani's hometown of Miamisburg, Oakwood, Kettering, Centerville, Miami Township, Washington Township, Moraine, West Carrollton, Germantown, and German Township.
