Antioch Word Explores SOUP: Urban Food Projects, Part 1

This edition of the Antioch Word  is Part 1 of a two-part series on local food justice. WYSO Miller Fellow Rachel Isaacson interviewed leaders of food justice projects that the Urban Food Projects class in Summer 2018 visited. The class was hosted by Kat Christen, manager of the Antioch Farm, who wanted to take classes to local gardens to discuss and see first-hand the type of work that these projects do. Today we hear from Sherry Chen from the project SOUP.

S.O.U.P. – Springfield Ohio Urban Plantfolk – is a community based, urban agriculture approach to food security for residents of the south side of Springfield, which is an official food desert.  It includes garden and food education components for adults and children, gardening setup and assistance, farm stand with EBT capacity, cooking classes, among other activities.

This interview was edited by Rachel Isaacson, current Miller Fellow at WYSO and co-host of The Antioch Word, a podcast for the Antioch College community, about Antioch College written and produced by Antioch College students working at WYSO.
