As tributes for Pope Francis come in from around the world in light of his death, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati is also honoring the pope.
Most Rev. Robert Casey, Archbishop of Cincinnati, released a statement this morning, hoping that Francis, “will receive the reward of a life poured out in selfless service and love for God’s people and all creation.”
The archdiocese encompasses almost half a million Catholics living in the 19 counties of western and southwestern Ohio, including the Dayton area.
Churches in the archdiocese will celebrate a Mass for the deceased Pope after the conclusion of the Octave of Easter that continues through Sunday, April 27.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati has set up a memorial inside the cathedral and mourners are welcome to come and pray.
Pope Francis died this morning at the age of 88. He was the pope of many firsts, such as the first pope from the Southern Hemisphere, from the Americas, and the first non-European elected in almost 1,300 years.
