The Greene County Public Health department has released a plan to help schools reopen for the 2020-202 school year. Included in the plan are general guidelines on what schools should consider as students return to the classroom.
Gabriel Lofton, the superintendent of Xenia Community Schools, says parents should expect differences between how schools end up opening, depending on the needs and abilities within each school district.
“But I think you'll find across school districts in Greene County, common sense precautions and protocols based around hand-washing, physical distancing, masks, and minimizing group activities,” he says.
Lofton adds he’s been in contact with other school superintendents since June, having conversations about whether or not to keep schools closed. He says for his district the decision was that it was important to get kids back into classrooms.
“We decided to reopen because we looked at the risk and we also look at the benefits and concluded that it was … important that we reopen up and continue to provide an education for students.”
