Even During Coronavirus, Experts Say It's Still Best To Give Birth At A Hospital Or Birthing Center

Montgomery County’s Maternal and Infant Vitality Task Force says it is still the best choice to give birth at a licensed accredited hospital or birthing center during the pandemic. At a press conference on Thursday, Project Manager Nan-c Moss Vann said extra precautions should be taken at home after a baby is born.

"It may be difficult to do because people always want to see and interact with new babies but please, minimize contact with other relatives and friends coming into the home during this crisis, even being careful about exposing your baby to siblings living in the home," Vann said.

She said breastfeeding is still the optimal choice for nutrition for infants. Recommendations from the CDC on breastfeeding and COVID-19 can be found at CDC.gov. If you have questions about breastfeeding, contact Public Health’s Women, Infants, and Children Program at 937-224-6166.
