Senators are preparing to put together and unveil their version of the budget that was passed by the House last month, which featured key differences from the original spending plan from Gov. John Kasich. But finishing the budget on time might be difficult.
Republican Senate Finance Chair Scott Oelslager of Canton says once all proposed amendments to the $71.5 billion budget are turned in, it’ll be full steam ahead.
“No testimony next week, but hoping to have sub-bill ready for review in full Finance on June 8th, and then there’ll be full public testimony on June 9, 10, 11 and 12,” Oelslager said at the end of testimony before the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday.
Senate President Keith Faber had said he wanted a full vote on the Senate floor on June 17, which doesn’t leave a lot of time to work out differences with the House version – and there are expected to be some. It’s been 14 years since a budget has passed the Senate later than June 13, and it needs to be signed and in place by the end of June.
