The Montgomery County Fairgrounds is getting closer to finding a new home. The Brookville city Council will take a final vote on two zoning ordinances Tuesday that will pave the way for the fairgrounds to move from its current Dayton location to Brookville.
But obstacles remain. Even if the city zoning ordinances are passed, there is an issue surrounding the funding of an access road on the proposed property that could help ease traffic problems in the area.
Brookville mayor Dave Seagraves says the group in charge of building the fairgrounds, Miller Valentine, has yet to secure the funding for the $850 thousand project.
"They're falling short, financially, on trying to come up with the money to extend this roadway so that we have a thoroughfare exiting the campus," says Seagraves.
A spokesman with Miller Valentine says construction of the road was not included in the original plans for the new site, and its partner, the Montgomery County Agricultural society, has agreed to pay 50% of the added cost.
Brookville mayor, Seagraves, says the issue will be addressed at the city council meeting. Both the city of Brookville and the land owner of the new site have agreed to help fund the road but the amount needed remains short.
Seagraves says if the additional funding isn't found, the fairgrounds move could be put on hold or shelved altogether.
