In Today’s special election, voters in 23 Ohio counties will decide 28 issues, 19 of which are school issues. Here are some of the issues on Miami Valley ballots.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY
On the ballot in Montgomery County are a German Twp. Parks and Recreation levy, a Huber Heights school levy, and two ballot issues asking voters to move forward with a joint economic development zone, and hotel district between Butler Township and the City of Vandalia.
Huber Heights City School District is looking for an additional tax for current operating expenses, and German Township is looking for a 5 year - point 5 mill parks and recreation levy.
WARREN COUNTY
In Warren County, Deerfield Twp wants to replace and increase a tax levy for Police & EMS services, and both Franklin Lebanon City School Districts have levy requests on the ballot.
LOGAN COUNTY
In Logan County, West Liberty Salem Local School District has 2 issues on the ballot - an annual .025% income tax for current expenses, and a bond issue for renovations and construction to existing facilities.
Sidney City Schools is looking for a 5 year income tax of 1% for current expenses.
CLARK COUNTY
Three Clark County school districts are asking voters to approve levies on Tuesday. Tecumseh Local Schools is back on the ballot after having a levy defeated nine straight times.
The Tecumseh School district is seeking to pass a 12.37-Mill levy, that would bring in $3.5 million annually and would cost the owner of a $100,000 property, $430 a year. The district is going to the ballot for the 10th time after being defeated in May by 84 votes. The district will face takeover by the state if the levy isn't approved by 2014.
Clark-Shawnee will also have a levy on Tuesday's ballot. Clark Shawnee is seeking a 10-year, 7.95-Mill levy that would bring in $2.5 million annually that would avoid an operating deficit for the school district. The levy was defeated in May by only six votes.
Northeastern Schools are asking voters to approve a one percent earned income tax on employed residents that would raise $4 million yearly. Last year, it was rejected by over 2,000 votes.
Clark County Board of Elections Director Matthew Tlachac says turnout for Tuesday's election is predicted to be low, and there will be some slight changes to polling locations.
"There's some select precincts that aren't open, so those voters have been notified to go to a different polling location for this election only, but it only affects a handful of voters in those select precincts," Tlachac said.
Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
