The crowds entering the fair this year

Greene County residents turned out in droves for their summer fair. There were competitions, food and rides.

As vaccines are beginning to be distributed, Ohio’s popular summer fairs are back in action. Here in WYSO’s backyard, the Greene County Fair wrapped up on August 7.

Jake Wuebben is the agricultural science teacher at Xenia High School. He says the fair had a record number of people come this year.

“This year the barns were packed during almost every show and it was just awesome to see for those exhibitors the ability to display their projects and have people actually watch them as they show their projects,” said Wuebben.

Many local children came out to compete in the livestock competitions. There were events like Swine Showmanship, the Market Turkey Sale, and the Meat Rabbit Show. The fair says about 73,000 people attended this year, which made for some lively audiences.

This story has been revised to reflect the following correction: Vaccines are not yet being distributed to children 12 and younger.

Shay Frank was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. Before working at WYSO, Shay worked as the Arts Writer for the Blade Newspaper in Toledo, Ohio.
