Holding Space
Holding Space
Holding Space is an exciting show coming to the Winds Cafe January 14th and running until March 2nd. Local artists Rachel Z. Meyer and Shauna Schramke are joining forces to test your limits on time, space, and self. Rachel Z. Meyer, a Yellow Springs local artist, was as young as seven when she made her first collage but she cannot remember a time when she did not make art. She uses found papers and materials such as book pages, wrapping paper, sand paper, tissue from gifts, old plane tickets, scraps from previous projects, and much more. Because of this, collage becomes a very nostalgic and hands-on process – the papers she uses have meaning. Usually she likes to do work that is whimsical and fun or nostalgic and finds nature, astronomy, physics, and mathematics very inspiring. Shauna Schramke is a local artist living with her wife and son in Urbana, Ohio. She is an educator, a fair to middling whistler and avid time traveler. She is keen on old, quirky homes and spaces and spends her moments immortalizing them into timescapes and portals. Her houses are people – portraits of the introverted, the less popular, the lovely, the slightly off. Both Meyer and Schramke dive into the fantastic and imaginative and create their work both at home and traveling. Get excited about the exhibition and follow their artist journeys!
