Far Hills Speaker Series: The Great Flood of 1913
Far Hills Speaker Series: The Great Flood of 1913
Local historian Mark Risley recounts the monumental 1913 Dayton flood, Oakwood's contribution to recovery, and the impact still felt today.
In March 1913, the Miami Valley received almost 12 inches of rain within three days. The rain fell on almost frozen ground and with no place to go the downtown was flooded to a level of almost 20 feet. Mark Risley is a local historian, writer, instructor, and public speaker in the Dayton area.
The Far Hills Speaker Series is presented through a partnership between the Oakwood Historical Society and Wright Memorial Public Library.
