What's Great in Dayton: January 20 - 26, 2017
On Saturday, at 10:30am the SunWatch Winter Lecture Series is having a presentation about a World War II prisoner of war camp in northernmost Norway. The labor camp for Soviet prisoners was established in 1942 and in late fall 1944 the camp, the coastal fort, and the local Norwegian hamlet were abandoned and destroyed.
And on Saturday at Courthouse Square from 1 - 2pm to show solidarity for the Women’s March in DC The Dayton Ohio Rally is having an event. They will feature speakers from various organizations, including Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio, the League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area, the Dayton Miami Valley AFL-CIO, Professionals United for Sexual Health and others.
Later on Saturday from 3:00 - 6:00pm at The Barrel House, 417 E 3rd Street, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton will have their Trap, Neuter, Return Coordinator on site to answer any questions and help concerned citizens learn how to take action to help solve Downtown Dayton's cat overpopulation problem. And the owners of Gem City Catfé will also be there to answer questions about the soon to be cat café, and talk about the Catfé's plans to help hundreds of cats in need in Dayton.
The University of Michigan Alumni Club of Dayton is hosting the acclaimed UM Men's Glee Club at Westminster Presbyterian Church, on Saturday at 7:00 PM. The 110 singers will perform men's choral works and college songs. A free-will offering will be taken.
On Sunday from 2:30 - 4:00pm. at the Aullwood Audubon Center a writer/artist will talk about her 13-year project documenting the daily changes in 17 bird species from hatching to fledging. The work, wonder and fun of studying nestlings, including being foster mother to orphaned hummingbirds, chimney swifts and bluebirds, makes for an irresistible and highly inspirational presentation.
