Charlie Campbell's picks for what to do and see this week in the Miami Valley

Tonight at Courthouse Square the Dayton Holiday Festival begins. The holidays “light up” at 7:55pm when approximately 50,000 colored lights brighten the three-story-tall tree. Then, there’s the Children’s Parade with decorative seasonal floats, horses drill teams, bands and some special holiday treats. All kind of entertainment, rides, and enjoyment from 4 to 9pm.

Now you can get out and skate on the region's largest outdoor ice rink! Whether you’re a skating rookie or have been lacing up your skates for decades and whether you’re looking for a leisurely afternoon with the family or a competitive night on the ice there is a full slate of activities to choose from at the MetroParks Ice Rink.

The Christkindl Market on Front Street is Saturday and Sunday. There are more than 72 artists and artisans providing their work for holiday shopping. Pictures with Santa, caroling, make and take activities, food truck, holiday light and display contests and more!

At the annual Doll’s High Tea, moms, aunts, and grandmas can bring their favorite little girl and her favorite doll to enjoy an afternoon of food and fun. This is at the Dayton Women’s Club on December 5, 2 to 4pm, and reservations are required.
