Ohio Ranks Near Top in Business Development

Ohio is getting some national recognition for business development and job creation.

The Buckeye State ranked second in the country behind Texas last year for attracting new companies and business expansion. That's according to the annual list compiled by the business trade magazine Site Selection.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that several Ohio cities were recognized, too.

Columbus finished 10th among metropolitan areas with a population of at least 1 million people, and Cincinnati finished eighth.

Leftwich Out as Ohio Development Leader

After serving four months as the Ohio Development Leader, Jim Leftwich is leaving the position.

Gov. John Kasich's office stated that as Leftwich plans to return to the private sector, Christiane "Chris" Schmenk, general counsel for the Ohio Department of Development, will take over. Schmenk will lead the department's reorganization as the state's economic development efforts are moved to the new nonprofit private corporation JobsOhio. Schmenk will assume the director's role on Aug. 1.
