What's Great in Dayton: June 27 - July 3, 2014

Lots of things going on for our last weekend of June!

Hillary Rodham Clinton will be at Books & Co. tonight at 7 pm to sign her book, Hard Choices. The memoir is an account of the crises, choices, and challenges she faced during her four years as America's 67th Secretary of State.

There will be Native American flute music and stories with Grammy and Nammy award winning performer Joseph FireCrow at SunWatch on Friday at 7pm. FireCrow will celebrate his Cheyenne heritage and kick off the weekend of the 26th Annual Keeping the Tradition Pow Wow that will be held Saturday and Sunday.

The current show at the Loft Theatre is Play It By Heart. It's the passing of the torch in a country music dynasty as a superstar’s long career draws to a close. A musical about heartbreak and healing, this regional premiere comes alive with an exciting original score filled with new songs. I saw this, and it is an amazing show.

Imagine yourself walking through a labyrinth lined with quilts that tell you about the world's major faiths and philosophical traditions. You become aware that the central message in all of these life-views has its roots in the same ethical foundation. This is at theDayton International Peace Museum and the display is opening Sunday.

On Sunday at 7:00pm Madcap Puppets will perform Twain's Twisted Tales at the Smith Gardens in Oakwood. This is free and bring along a blanket.

And finally....I love boogie woogie music and on Saturday night at Gilly’s, it is happening. Ricky Nye is the master of Blues, Boogie Woogie, and New Orleans Music....and I kinda know him! He has also been performing right here at WYSO! Since Gilly’s is having no cover charge, you can pop in, hear some music, and say hi to me. This is Saturday, 8 – 11:00pm
