Before I began interviewing authors on the radio I had always been an avid reader.Since kindergarten really. I read all kinds of stuff but I never read any crime fiction until I began hosting this program. I found out quickly that's there quite a lot of it and some of it is extremely good. One of my favorite discoveries from 25 years ago was the novelist Jan Burke. Her Irene Kelly series is extraordinary, we did several interviews. 20 years ago we talked about "Flight" which was the eighth novel out of the eleven that she has written so far in that series. I'm not sure if she's still actively writing novels. I Googled her and it looks like her most recent book came out ten years ago.
We had a good conversation in 2001 when she visited our studios in Yellow Springs. We got into a lively discussion that afternoon about the craft of writing crime fiction.
