Best of the Book Nook: The Runaway Quilt (Elm Creek Quilts Series #4) by Jennifer Chiaverini
Vick Mickunas' 2002 interview with Jennifer Chiaverini
Back during the days when we frequently had guests making their way out to the WYSO studios in Yellow Springs to do live interviews we experienced our share of mishaps, lost connections, and late arrivals. The first time the late Pat Conroy came out to see us 25 years ago he arrived exactly on time. He had his publicist with him and she was in a right tizzy. They had been trying to tune in the station in their car and they had been unable to locate a signal at 91.3FM. There was a good reason for that, our tower had taken a lightning strike, and we were off the air. In that case the guest had not gotten lost, but we had. Or, at least our frequency was lost for a time. We taped a radio show anyway. Pat was a gent!
On the day that Jennifer Chiaverini came out to see us 19 years ago she arrived rather late. She came with her four-month-old child and her mother who took care of the infant while we did our interview. They had gotten lost. She said they had found a radio station and the people there were quite nice but it had been the wrong place. They had been in Xenia.
Since the author was a Cincinnati native I was a bit surprised that she had had a hard time finding Yellow Springs. But hey, stuff happens, right? We had a lovely chat that day about her mystery novel. And since it was part of her Elm Creek Quilts series we talked quite a bit about quilts that day.
