"A Private Cathedral" by James Lee Burke
James Lee Burke returned to the program to discuss his latest novel in his Dave Robicheaux series, the 23rd installment in a series which began in 1987 with "The Neon Rain." The three most recent books in this series were written as a trilogy of flashbacks that were set during the period just prior to 9/11. In these books Burke is waxing prophetic as he warns his readership about the coming of a leader who will seem like a combination of Huey Long, Joseph McCarthy, and George Wallace. This charismatic individual will acquire power while advancing nativist and racist beliefs.
Originally scheduled for a release in May, this book's publication date was delayed by the pandemic. Due to that delay James Lee Burke has already completed his next book and during this interview he talked about it. This was my 19th interview with the author and that was the first time he had ever been willing to talk about his next book because on every other occasion they had still been works in progress.
