Book Nook: After We Kill You, We Will Welcome You Back As Honored Guests, by Ted Rall

Ted Rall went to Afghanistan shortly after the United States invaded the country. He was with a group of journalists-during that time things were quite dangerous there. Some of them never made it back home.

Some years later Rall decided to make a return trip. He wanted to see for himself how Afghanistan had changed since the U.S. invasion. Most of the reporting out of the area was being filed by reporters who had been "embedded" within our military operations there. Rall wanted to have an unembedded view of what was happening. He went back and has now written a book about that journey and titled it: "After We Kill You, We Will Welcome You Back As Honored Guests - Unembedded in Afghanistan."

On this trip Rall made many observations. Some of his conclusions might surprise you. It has been 13 years since our armed forces invaded that country on what was supposed to be a mission to apprehend Osama bin Laden while also driving the ruling Taliban from power. What have we really accomplished there? Well, bin Laden was actually hiding in neighboring Pakistan. The Taliban are no longer considered to be governing Afghanistan but did we actually drive them away? Rall doesn't think so. In fact he believes that most of the country outside of the urban areas is still under Taliban control.

Ted Rall has roots in SW Ohio. He graduated from high school in Kettering. Rall's distinctive political cartoons have appeared in many publications. He speaks the truth as he sees it in his books and cartoons. He doesn't sugar coat his opinions. His refusal to kowtow has outraged some rich and powerful people. Rall wouldn't have it any other way.
