WYSO Weekend: April 26, 2020

Jerry Kenney

If you’re looking for something fun to do while staying at home, Miami Valley museums may have you covered. They’ve been beefing up their virtual products to keep patrons, both new and old, well cultured while quarantined. Community Voices producer Jason Reynolds has been on a lot of online tours lately.

This week on Dayton Youth Radio we have a new series from Kettering Fairmont High School. Students there were eager to talk about life under quarantine - and so their teacher, Laura Hutchens, called us up and our collaboration began. Today we'll hear from Imani Reed and Molly Mitchell both juniors at Kettering Fairmont High School.

People are discovering some new ways to stay connected during the coronavirus pandemic.  In Yellow Springs, a talented young man is using his gift to bring his neighbors together. For WYSO’s Alone Together project, here’s Jocelyn Robinson.

In wartime, there are celebrity generals like Norman Schwarzkopf, infamous adversaries like Saddam Hussein, and the men and women who carry out their orders, and at times, they cross paths. Today on Veterans Voices, Air Force Veteran Tracy Cooper of Huber Heights shares his story.

WYSO’s Leila Goldstein speaks with Dr. Lee Hannah, a professor of political science at Wright State University, about the impact of the coronavirus on this election and some of the issues on the ballot in Greene County.

Jerry began volunteering at WYSO in 1991 and hosting Sunday night's Alpha Rhythms in 1992. He joined the YSO staff in 2007 as Morning Edition Host, then All Things Considered. He's hosted Sunday morning's WYSO Weekend since 2008 and produced several radio dramas and specials . In 2009 Jerry received the Best Feature award from Public Radio News Directors Inc., and was named the 2023 winner of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors Best Anchor/News Host award. His current, heart-felt projects include the occasional series Bulletin Board Diaries, which focuses on local, old-school advertisers and small business owners. He has also returned as the co-host Alpha Rhythms.<br/>
