What's Great In Dayton: December 8 - 14, 2017

The holiday season has many moods . . . from sacred and traditional to young-at-heart and popular. Tonight and Saturday at 8pm the focus is on swing. Those catchy rhythms that the hippest of the hip use to make everything, including the holidays, just a little more cool. This is the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Dayton International Peace Museum is celebrating the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, with a special luncheon, a keynote address, and a celebration of all Peace Museum donors, volunteers, and friends. Everyone is welcome to this at Sinclair Community College, on Saturday at noon.

On Sunday from 11am to 5pm the Oakwood Farmers Market and the Oakwood Historical Society are having a Winter Market & Elf Shoppe. This is on Far Hills Avenue in the Oakwood Historical building.

Aullwood Candle Dipping is on Saturdays and Sundays in December starting at 2:30pm. Learn about candles, bees, lighting and conservation in this fun hands-on program. The glow of a dipped candle is the perfect way to "warm up" a cold winter night. Please note that candles are now made from pure beeswax.

On Sunday the Greene County Ohio Historical Society at 74 West Church St. has a holiday open house in the Trebein-Flynn Victorian house and the Galloway log house. From 1 to 4pm, the museum will be lit up for the holidays.

An Evening of Celtic Music and Dance! Kick off your holiday season with a joyous night of song and dance on Sunday at the Celtic Festival! The concert, starting at 7pm, is at the Stivers School for the Arts and proceeds will help to fund the programs of We Care Arts.

Gotta go….
