In celebration of Tecumseh Land Trust’s upcoming 25th anniversary, the regional land preservation organization and WYSO 91.3 FM radio are co-sponsoring an essay contest for area writers to reflect on the meaning of “living on the land.” To find out more about the contest and a series of workshops coming up, we spoke with Ed Davis - a member of the board of trustees with the land trust.

Rules:
- Essays should be nonfiction.
- Length should be 250 words or less.
- Essays should personally connect to the theme “Living on the Land."
- Eligibility is limited to residents within WYSO’s listening audience: Greene, Clark, Champaign, Clinton, Fayette, Madison, Miami and Montgomery counties.
- Only one submission allowed per entrant.
- Only unpublished manuscripts will be accepted.
- Entry form (Click Here For Form) must be included with submission (the form is a Word Document. Click to open).
- Deadline is Dec. 15.
Winning essays will:
- Stay on theme;
- Focus on 1-2 specific elements;
- Include specific details: brief dramatic stories, events, persons and/or memorable moments;
- Be concise, grammatical (but not necessarily perfect) and well-organized with beginning, middle and end.

- Middle School (6th-8th grades)
- High-School (9th-12th grades)
- Adult
Essays may be submitted by U.S. mail or by email.
For email entries:
- Submit essay as a Word, PDF or rich text file.
- Do not put writer’s name anywhere on essay.
- Attach essay and Entry Form and address email to: Sunflowers@Tecumsehlandtrust.org.
- Subject line should include the words “Essay Contest” and category (Adult, Middle School, High School).
For entries mailed via postal service:
- Do not put writer’s name anywhere on essay.
- Submit essay with entry form.

PRIZES:
First-place winners in each category will:
- Receive $100;
- Be recorded and published on WYSO’s website and considered for broadcast on the air in spring 2015;
- Receive a one-year membership to Tecumseh Land Trust;
- Be published in the Yellow Springs News.
Honorable Mention winners will:
- Be published on TLT’s website.
