Dozens of people are expected to rally in Dayton Saturday to protest what they see as Trump administration attacks on transgender rights.
The #WontBeErased phrase originated on social media shortly after the reveal of a recent Trump Administration memo advocating for a narrower legal definition of gender based solely on a person’s genitalia at birth.
Activists say that classification would deprive transgender people of legal recognition and civil-rights protections.
Josey Becker, with the Greater Dayton LGBT Center, helped organize this Saturday’s protest.
“We’re fighting for equality – nothing more, nothing less,” says Becker. “We want the same rights as everyone else and that’s what this is all about.”
Other event sponsors include anti-Trump activist group District 10 Indivisible for All, and PFLAG Dayton.
The protest is set to begin Saturday at 1 p.m. in Dayton’s Courthouse Square.
