COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A Columbus police spokesman says an internal investigation continues into officers' use of tear gas and pepper spray to disperse crowds following Ohio State's football championship victory.

Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs called for the review last week in an email sent to police and some city officials.

Police estimated that about 5,000 people converged onto a nearby campus street last week to celebrate the school's 42-20 win over the University of Oregon. Jacobs has said people ignored repeated requests to clear the streets and emergency personnel couldn't get through to respond to fires.

Based on photos and video, Jacobs wants an investigation into the use of spray on people on sidewalks obeying the law.
