Book Nook: "Light of the World" by James Lee Burke (Simon & Schuster)

Almost twenty years ago I had a life changing experience. An author walked in to the studio for an interview. I had loved his book and was looking forward to meeting him. When he passed through the airlock the first thing I noticed about him was a twinkle in his eye.

The author was James Lee Burke. Through the years we have talked about his prodigious body of work on many occasions. Over the course of more than a dozen interviews I have gotten to know him a little bit. He has long been one of my favorite writers.

But it goes beyond that. He's a true gentleman, too.  Listen to this interview and you'll realize that he also has this amazing, infectious laugh. "Light of the World" is Burke's 20th book in his series that features the Louisiana lawman Dave Robicheaux.

This one is set in Montana. Dave and his best buddy Clete are on vacation. But we know that their recreational activities will veer quickly into solving crimes. There's a serial killer from Kansas on the loose. Dave and Clete are on the case. Watch out.

Vick Mickunas introduced the Book Nook author interview program for WYSO in 1994. Over the years he has produced more than 1500 interviews with writers, musicians, poets, politicians, and celebrities.
