The "Prey" series by John Sandford is one of the most popular crime fiction series around. The books sell and sell and sell. There's a good reason for that- they are really good books.
In Sandford's latest addition "Extreme Prey" we find that his inveterate investigator Lucas Davenport is in a bit of an odd place, he's no longer an agent looking into crimes in Minnesota. He's not even a cop. As the story opens Lucas is busy working on his vacation home in Wisconsin when he gets word that his old buddy the Minnesota governor wants Lucas to help him out with a problem down in Iowa.
His pal is running for president. Actually, he's hoping to become vice-president. And the front-runner for the nomination, a woman who resembles Hillary Clinton to some degree is being shadowed by some psychopathic killers. Lucas goes to Iowa where he tries to figure out who these potential assassins might be. It turns out that they are a mother and son duo who have cooked up an insidious plot to knock off this female candidate at the Iowa State Fair.
I have read a lot of books in this series and I think that this is one of the best ones yet. During this interview the author reveals that he's a big fan of another mega-selling crime writer, a guy named Lee Child.
